I had the great good fortune to meet with Armin T. Wegner and his wife in Rome a few years before his death. My accompanist Robert Kettelson and I had recorded two songs by our friend Felix Wolfes on Wegner's poetry, and Felix asked me if there was some way I could sing them for him, but as there was no piano available, we recorded the songs on cassette. I shall never forget him or that visit, and I cherish the gift he gave us of one of his books with a touching inscription. When we entered his home he welcomed us with open arms as if we had been old and cherished friends. When we left, I had the feeling that we were just that.. A life-changing experience.
